A total of 35 boats from 12 different nationalities, very similar in length and speed, will compete for the title in the Ubico ORC B class at the 43rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThe 2025 Mediterranean season is proving to be highly competitive in this class. The team to beat, at least on paper, will be the Argentine team “Katara”, skippered by Julián Soldini, who with a 39-foot boat designed by Patricio Gutiérrez, will not only defend the 2024 Copa del Rey MAPFRE title, but has also reaffirmed his dominance in the Bay of Palma this year by winning Sandberg PalmaVela in May and most recently the SM la Reina Trophy in Valencia.
Two other strong contenders for the title will be “L’Immens”, skippered by Nicolás Pesich, sailing under the burgee of the Club Náutico de Ibiza aboard a Sinergia 40, coming in as runner-up at the SM la Reina Trophy and having also reached the podium at both the Trofeo Conde de Godó and Sandberg PalmaVela. And “Guardamaro”, one of the five Italia Yachts units, owned by Massimo Romero from Italy, who already claimed the runner-up spot in 2024.
The Bay of Palma and the Balearic coastline always bring surprises, especially with such a strong fleet made up of five X-41 and Italia Yachts, and four Sinergia 40 and First 40.7 boats. This edition also features new attractions due to its European Championship status, including offshore races, with coastal courses outside the bay that will spotlight the islands of Dragonera and Cabrera.
From July 26, with the opening of the 43rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE, until the awards ceremony presided over by King Felipe on August 2, anything could happen among the 35 teams entered in this edition’s most crowded class.
