October begins with unsettled weather

The first thing we all check before the weekend arrives is what the weather is going to be like.

That’s why, on Passion for the Sea, in collaboration with Àngel Muñoz, creator of Meteo de les Illes, we bring you the weather forecast every Friday, so you can plan ahead and enjoy the sea with all the information you need.

The Balearic Islands are heading into a weekend marked by unsettled weather, with rain, showers and thunderstorms potentially affecting different parts of the archipelago.

For today, Friday 2nd October, cloudy or overcast skies are expected, with showers and thunderstorms that could locally be heavy or very heavy. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, although a slight drop is possible, while winds will be light to moderate from the east and northeast.

Conditions will remain challenging throughout the weekend due to the arrival of an easterly flow, which will lead to worsening sea conditions. Waves could exceed one metre in height on both Saturday and Sunday, particularly in more exposed areas. This will also be notable in southern Menorca, where waves could exceed half a metre.

Atmospherically, instability will be particularly pronounced on Saturday, with rain and thunderstorms possible across virtually the entire archipelago. These phenomena could occur more frequently inland, although thunderstorms at sea cannot be ruled out either.

These storms could particularly affect Ibiza and Formentera, as well as various parts of Mallorca, meaning that changeable and unsettled weather is expected to persist throughout the weekend.

For this reason, Passion for the Sea recommends taking extra care when carrying out outdoor activities and always checking the weather forecast before heading out to sea.
