A special place for Los Gallos, who return to the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix after winning one of the most important victories of last season here.
The Spain SailGP Team arrives in the United States in its strongest and most consistent form to date. Four consecutive finals in four Grand Prix events have turned the team led by Diego Botín into one of the main benchmarks of the championship. Los Gallos will return this weekend (Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st of May, on Deportes by Movistar Plus+, and outside Spain on the official SailGP YouTube channel) to the scene of that victory.
The team arrives in New York after narrowly missing out on another win in Bermuda, where only Australia managed to beat the F50 Victoria in the Grand Prix final. The second-place finish allowed them to climb to third in the Rolex SailGP Championship standings and confirm the team’s outstanding form under Diego Botín.
So far, the Spain SailGP Team has reached every final held this season. Third in Auckland and Sydney; second in Rio de Janeiro and Bermuda. This consistent performance has firmly established the Spanish team as one of the main contenders in the championship. The team led by Tom Slingsby remains the benchmark to beat for Los Gallos. Australia continues to perform at a very high level and currently dominates the overall standings; however, Spain’s recent results have significantly reduced the gap between the two teams.
Great Britain, the United States, France, and Sweden will also once again fight for top positions in a Grand Prix that promises maximum competitiveness throughout the weekend. Australia currently leads the overall standings with 45 points, Great Britain is second with 35, while Los Gallos are third with 34 points, firmly established among the strongest teams in the championship.
Once again, absent from the event will be Peter Burling’s New Zealand team, whose F50 is still under repair.
