The Real Club Náutico de Palma has this morning accepted the challenge from ocean sailor Hugo Ramón to attempt to break the solo sailing record around Mallorca—a feat the yachtsman will take on aboard the “Cristalmina-Majorica,” his six-and-a-half-meter yacht with which he’ll compete this September in the Mini Transat, the demanding solo transatlantic race.

Hugo Ramón is scheduled to set sail tomorrow, Tuesday, April 15, at 5:00 p.m. from the port of Palma to take advantage of a favorable weather window, with westerly winds that will allow him to sail downwind on the first leg of the route.
The record to beat is 25 hours and six minutes, set in September 2020 by the “Azuree,” skippered by Eduardo Horrach.
Although the weather models point to favorable conditions, the sailor remains cautious: “Theory is one thing and practice is another,” he warned, referring to the “strategically demanding nature” of circumnavigating the island solo.
This navigation is part of Hugo’s preparation for the Mini Transat and allows him to test himself under real conditions. “I’m 100% focused on crossing the Atlantic; I want to be at the front of the fleet, and to do that I need to achieve complete synergy with the boat,” he stated.
