Natulim Sailing Team, sailing for Club Náutico Sevilla, has claimed victory in the third event of the Liga Iberdrola, held this weekend in the waters of Palma Bay and co-organised by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and Club Nàutic s’Arenal. The crew led by Catalan sailor Carlota Massana has now taken two consecutive wins on the national women’s sailing circuit, allowing them to lead the standings and secure the Spanish place in the European final of the Sailing Champions League.

The much-prized “Embat” made its appearance yesterday, Sunday 17th of May, in Palma Bay, blowing at between 8 and 12 knots for the second and final day of the Liga Iberdrola event in El Arenal. With conditions more manageable than the previous day, the crews enjoyed technical and closely fought racing on board the Bavaria B/One one-design boats.

The 55 women taking part continued the preliminary round during the morning, with seven more races held. This allowed teams that had struggled the day before, such as Amalia Coll’s CNA Mallorca and Silvia Marcé’s Surne, to shine. At 02:00 p.m., the qualifying round came to an end and the top six crews prepared for the Medal Races. Carmen Galdós’s Real Club Marítimo del Abra – Real Sporting Club team held on to the lead, followed by Natulim Sailing Team from CN Sevilla. CNA Mallorca, Surne, RFGV – Deporte Galego and Sailing Point CN Altea also made the cut.

Three second places for Natulim Sailing Team in the Medal Races gave them the overall victory ahead of the rest of the teams, which proved more inconsistent. The crew formed by Carlota Massana, Ana Pujol, Ana Lobo, Sofía Basterra and Aina Lleonart showed their quality today on the Arenal racecourse, after a poor manoeuvre in one of Saturday’s races had pushed them down the standings. The team is made up of five middle-aged women, each from a different Spanish city, brought together by sailing: they became friends many years ago while competing in children’s and youth classes, and the Liga Iberdrola has brought them back together, for the first time in the same boat.

“Today we had the typical conditions of Palma Bay, the thermal wind of 8-9 knots,” explained the skipper. “The key was to be very consistent, with three second places in the finals. Everything went really well for us. We want to thank Club Náutico Arenal and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation for the organisation, because the truth is that this short-race format is super fun — it was amazing.”

Second place went to Surne from Real Club Marítimo del Abra – Real Sporting Club, formed by Silvia Marcé, Joana Abasolo, Arantxa Sellhorn, Carmen Gameza and Camila Rojas. The third step of the podium went to CNA Mallorca, the local team. The young sailors Amalia Coll, Aina Garau, Martina Gomila, Laia Mattos and Sabina Vicens showed great command of the typical Palma Bay conditions, although they were not quite as sharp in the final two Medal Races.

With the results from this third event included, the Liga Iberdrola standings remain led by Natulim Sailing Team, who have therefore secured the Spanish place for the European final of the Sailing Champions League, to be held from the 7th to the 9th of August in Kiel, Germany. Completing the provisional circuit podium are the two RCM Abra-RSC teams: Carmen Galdós’s crew in second place and Silvia Marcé’s Surne in third.

After this third event hosted by Club Nàutic s’Arenal, the Liga Iberdrola now gives the participating teams a break to help them balance academic, family and work commitments. The fourth event will take place on 19 and 20 September in Vilagarcía de Arousa, at the Galician Sailing Centre. The circuit will conclude with a three-day final from the 10th to the 12th of October, co-organised by Club Náutico Altea in the province of Alicante.

The 2026 Liga Iberdrola is organised by the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting, Real Club Náutico Calpe, Club Náutico Arenal, the Royal Galician Sailing Federation and Club Náutico Altea, with the collaboration of the regional federations hosting the regattas. Iberdrola is the main sponsor.
