The 27th Menorca–Sant Joan Regatta, Alfonso 13th Trophy and Port of Mahón Regatta are counting down to the start of this year’s competition. More than 40 boats have already registered for one of the Mediterranean’s most important offshore sailing events, which will begin on Thursday, 18th of June, in Barcelona and culminate with the spectacular Port of Mahón Regatta on Saturday, 20th of June. Sponsored by the Menorca Island Council and supported by Mahón City Council and the Port Authority, the event presents a major challenge for participants, who must complete the 140-nautical-mile course between Barcelona and Mahón using sail power alone.

Once again, the Club Marítimo de Mahón and the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona are organizing one of Spain’s most attractive offshore sailing competitions. Activities will begin on Wednesday, 17th of June, with competitor registration at the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona race office. The race itself will start the following day at 12:00 noon.

The 42 boats currently entered will undertake a 140-nautical-mile voyage, approximately 250 kilometres, powered solely by the wind. Depending on weather and sea conditions, the first boats are expected to arrive in Mahón on Friday, 19th of June.

On Saturday, 20th of June, competitors will take part in the Port of Mahón Regatta, a spectacular sailing race held within the natural harbour of Mahón. Covering a course of approximately eight nautical miles, the event offers a unique spectacle, with the start line located in front of the Maritime Station. The race provides a remarkable visual display, as spectators can watch the crews’ skill and manoeuvring from virtually any vantage point around the harbour.

Another of the event’s most prestigious attractions is the Alfonso 13th Trophy, one of the oldest trophies in Spain’s sailing calendar. It was established in 1912 by King Alfonso 13th, grandfather of King Juan Carlos 1st and great-grandfather of the current King Felipe 6th. Since 1996, its organization has been jointly overseen by the Mahón Maritime Club and the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona.
