The ‘Modul’, an IMS 42 skippered by Admiral Jaime Rodríguez-Toubes, was declared overall winner of the general classification of the 46th edition of the Armed Forces Trophy, held on Friday, June 21st, in Palma Bay with the participation of 34 cruising and dinghy boats.

Indigo, a X 302 skippered by Pedro Siquier from Club Nàutic s’Arenal, and Mara, a Sun Odyssey skippered by Jacinto Pelaez from Club de Mar San Antonio de la Playa, took second and third place overall in the regatta. This year’s event was jointly organized by Club de Mar-Mallorca, the Naval Regatta Commission of the Balearic Islands, and the Balearic Sailing Federation.

The regatta began promptly at 1:00 PM when nearly 30 boats from the Cruiser class started a 13-mile coastal course on a hot summer day with around 7 knots of southerly wind. One hour earlier, at noon, the Latin Sail and Dinghy classes set off, covering distances of 13 and 8 miles, respectively.

In the ORC 1 and 2 classes, ‘Modul’ took first place, followed by ‘Setebello’ and ‘Bip Bip’. In ORC 3, ‘Mestral Fast’, ‘Tessa’, and ‘Alopex III’ were the top finishers. ORC 4 saw victories from ‘Indigo’, ‘Mara’, and ‘Maribel’, while ORC 5 winners were ‘Runaway’, ‘Taichu’, and ‘Idra’.

Among the classics and Snipes, the winners were Jaume Amengual as skipper of ‘Randó’ from Club Nàutic Cala Gamba, and Andrés Gerardo, respectively.

The day concluded with an awards ceremony and a cocktail reception held in the Tramontana building at the new Club de Mar-Mallorca facilities.

This regatta, which rotates its venue annually among various yacht clubs in the municipalities of Palma and Llucmajor, has become a symbol of camaraderie between the public and the Armed Forces. The Naval Regatta Commission contributes its fleet of sailboats based at the Porto Pi Naval Station, while participating yacht clubs provide racing boats across different categories.

Rear Admiral Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui was the main promoter of this trophy, inspired by the historical events of Dunkirk during World War II, when a large fleet of small civilian boats helped rescue more than 300,000 British soldiers.
