Menorcans Borrás and Franceschi claim Snipe European Cup title

The Club Marítimo de Mahón duo won the John Broughton Trophy after four races.

Damián Borrás and Sara Franceschi, representing Club Marítimo de Mahón, claimed victory last weekend at the Snipe European Cup – John Broughton Trophy, held in Gdańsk, Poland. The event is part of the preparation calendar for the Snipe World Championship, which will take place in Mahón from the 19th to the 26th of September.

Borrás and Franceschi topped the standings with 7 points after four races, posting an impressive series of 1st, 1st, 4th, and 1st. The regatta featured three races on Friday and one on Saturday, while Sunday's racing was cancelled due to a lack of wind despite temperatures exceeding 40°C.

The podium was completed by the Polish crews of Jan Sibiliski and Bartosz Napierała in second place with 9 points, followed by Karol Maciejewski and Tomasz Mirowski in third with 13 points. A total of 16 boats competed, with the top seven finishers all expected to race at the upcoming World Championship in Mahón.

Borrás is currently preparing for the World Championship, where he will compete alongside Javier Magro. However, due to Magro's work commitments, Borrás teamed up for this event with Sara Franceschi, who has been his crew in recent months.
