Menorca and Mallorca under warning for heavy swell and strong winds

25th March 2026 by Nautimedia

The Balearic Islands are facing an episode of rough seas and strong winds between Thursday, March 26th, and Friday, March 27th, with the greatest impact expected in Menorca and in the north and northeast of Mallorca, where the worst conditions are forecast. The most significant warnings are focused on coastal phenomena, with very heavy swell and northerly wind gusts that could complicate navigation and outdoor activities.

During Thursday the 26th, Menorca will be under an orange coastal warning from 03:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., with northerly waves of 5 to 6 metres and a maximum wave height of up to 10 metres, in addition to northerly winds of 50 to 65 km/h, reaching force 7 to 8. The north and northeast of Mallorca will also be under an orange warning from 06:00, with waves of 4 metres and combined seas that could produce maximum waves of up to 8 metres, accompanied by intervals of northerly winds of 50 to 60 km/h.

In addition, Menorca will be under a wind warning throughout Thursday, with maximum gusts of up to 70 km/h. In Mallorca, both the Serra de Tramuntana and the eastern part of the island will be under warning for coastal phenomena, with northerly winds and waves of up to 3 metres.

Conditions are not expected to improve on Friday, March 27th. Both Menorca and the north and northeast of Mallorca will remain under an orange coastal warning throughout the day, with northerly winds of 50 to 70 km/h and waves of 4 to 6 metres, which could reach between 8 and 10 metres at maximum height. In Menorca, wind gusts of up to 80 km/h are also expected until 07:59 p.m.

Coastal warnings will also remain active in other parts of Mallorca, such as the eastern coast and the Serra de Tramuntana, where strong northerly swell will continue, with waves of around 3 metres.

Given this situation, people are advised to take extreme caution along the coast, avoid approaching areas exposed to heavy swell, and check the latest warnings before travelling or carrying out activities at sea.
