Maritime Rescue reminds how to prevent emergency situations with their new advice Guide

The Ministry of Transports launches a new guide with recommendations to prevent accidents in recreational seamanship.

Prevention is a fundamental element to avoid dangerous situations at sea. That’s why, the Ministry of Transports and Sustainable Mobility, the Directorate General of the Marine Merchant and Maritime Rescue, have launched a new edition of their security campaign in recreational seamanship, with a clear message: prevention saves lives.

Under the slogan ‘Do not let yourself go by mermaids’ chants’, the nautical security campaign of this year focuses on habits that a lot of sailors have normalized and that, without knowing it, can put them in risk. Alcohol consumption aboard, lack of vests’ and lifelines’ maintenance, low vigilance of minors in deck or the deficient planification of fuel, amongst others, can put the security of the whole crew into severe risk.

To help prevent emergency situations, a new and complete practical security advice in nautical activities guide has been elaborated, which recollects all the main recommendations, laws and good practices for a safe and responsible sailing. 

The guide includes practical advice for before, during and after the journey, revision of the mandatory security elements, current law, specific recommendations for speedboats, how to act in case of an emergency and contact with Maritime Rescue.
