Marina Port Valencia and the Federació de Vela de la Comunitat Valenciana (FVCV – SomVela) have formalised a cooperation agreement for the development and promotion of water sports in the city. The deal, signed by MPV General Director Santiago Donat and FVCV President Carlos Torrado, establishes an eight-year strategic alliance that will strengthen the visibility and growth of nautical activities in Valencia.

This agreement forms part of Marina Port Valencia’s commitments as concession holder, reflecting its commitment to promoting water sports activities. Among the key objectives of this new stage is strong support for the local sports sector and the city’s nautical companies.

Under this partnership, the FVCV will contribute its expertise to plan, coordinate and deliver an annual calendar of events, regattas, training activities and sponsorship programmes at the marina’s facilities. In turn, Marina Port Valencia will provide financial support for these initiatives and make its nautical infrastructure available for their implementation.

“This alliance allows us to turn into reality our commitment not only to sailing but also to the city of Valencia: opening the port to citizens through sport and actively cooperating with the institutions that best understand the sea,” said Santiago Donat, General Director of Marina Port Valencia.

“This agreement strengthens an excellent synergy between Marina Port Valencia and the Federation, boosting sailing, creating opportunities, optimising resources and positioning Valencia as a sustainable and high-quality nautical and sports benchmark. The Federation needs the port for its activities and growth; MPV gains activity, value and joint development,” added Carlos Torrado, President of the FVCV.

The signing of this agreement also provides support for nautical companies and professional services operating in the city. With a calendar of nationally and internationally relevant events and competitions, a direct positive impact is expected on the local economy, benefiting sectors such as tourism, hospitality, shipyards and sailing schools in the area. In this way, Marina Port Valencia is positioned not only as a first-class sports venue, but also as a driver of economic development.

The agreement establishes a model that combines private investment and management with the technical expertise of a public-sector sports federation. Both organisations have highlighted that the eight-year duration provides the stability needed to develop medium- and long-term projects, moving beyond the short-term nature of traditional events. With this shared vision, the foundations are laid for Valencia not only to remember its great nautical milestones of the past, but to build a sustainable and lasting future linked to the sea.
