Marina Port Andratx will enable eleven new berths after strengthening the mooring system

The intervention will allow the berths included in the concession of Marina Port Andratx to be brought into service and will improve the safety conditions of the facility.

Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), an agency under the Conselleria de la Mar i del Cicle de l’Aigua, has authorized the execution of the necessary works to adapt the mooring system of the outer dock of pier number 2 at Marina Port Andratx. The aim is to bring into service eleven seasonal berths included in the administrative concession granted to Iniciatives Portuàries Mirall de Mar de Mallorca S.L. (IP3M).

The project will make it possible to activate eight bow-in berths for vessels up to 25 meters in length and 7.5 meters in beam, as well as three side-tied berths on the outer dock. These will be operational only between June 1 and September 30. These berths are included in the berth distribution plan set out in the concession awarded by PortsIB for the management of the port’s nautical-sport facilities.

To ensure the safety of the infrastructure and the vessels, the concessionaire has submitted a technical report confirming the need to reinforce the existing mooring system. The works will include repositioning the six existing sinkers (moorings), installing three new 12-ton mooring blocks, laying 95 linear meters of 40 mm chain, and installing sixteen mooring lines with 22 mm chain, in addition to the necessary auxiliary components for operation.

The project budget amounts to €33,536.49, with an expected execution period of one month. Technical reports from PortsIB conclude that the safety coefficients are adequate for the site conditions and consider the intervention necessary to ensure that these berths can enter service during the summer season.

The authorization also sets out several operating and safety conditions, including a prior inspection of the mooring installations before the berths are put into service, and special measures in the event of forecast winds exceeding 70 km/h. Furthermore, the works must be incorporated into the overall improvement project that the concessionaire is required to submit to PortsIB under the current concession.

With this intervention, PortsIB continues advancing the upgrading of port infrastructure at Port d'Andratx, aiming to ensure the safety of facilities and the proper delivery of nautical and recreational services during the peak season.
