Marina Ibiza applies new environmental measures and reinforces its compromise with sustainability

Marina Ibiza presents its environmental action plan for this 2025, an annual program that reinforces its compromise with sustainability through concrete actions oriented to the environment’s protection and the constant improvement of their management practices.

The port has renewed its main quality and environmental certifications, such as ISO 9001 and 14001, EMAS, the Blue Flag, the Clean Port distinction, and the 5-star marina certification, thus reinforcing its commitment to an environmentally respectful, efficient operation aligned with international environmental goals.

Among the measures planned for this year, the expansion of the solar thermal panel infrastructure for self-consumption stands out, with the aim of reducing the energy footprint of the facilities. Additionally, the use of electric vehicles within the port is being promoted, supporting sustainable mobility in the marina area.

In terms of waste management, new recycling points adapted to handle special waste, such as oils and batteries, have been implemented, in addition to continued improvements to the selective collection and separation system on board. This includes reusable bags provided free of charge by the marina to each user, facilitating the recycling process for both clients and vessels.

One of the key new initiatives of the 2025 plan has been the transformation of the port environment into the first sanctuary for the Ibiza Wall Lizard. This endemic species of the Balearic Islands now has a protected area at Marina Ibiza, with specific gardened zones and stone walls that provide an ideal habitat. Preventive measures and traps have also been installed to guard against natural predators, along with an informative campaign aimed at visitors and port users.

The port also maintains its collaboration with organizations specialized in rescuing marine wildlife, particularly turtles that are found injured or entangled. These animals are cared for through a designated collection point in the marina, with recovery coordinated through Palma Aquarium.

Marina Ibiza also continues to strengthen its social and environmental commitment through partnerships with organizations such as Be Blue, an initiative by Trasmapi, and TrueWorld. Together, they carry out joint actions to preserve the marine ecosystem, including seabed clean-ups, educational and social outings on electric boats, water quality monitoring, and the creation of a catalog of species present in the port area.

Furthermore, the use of the Bio-Box system continues. This technology uses natural microorganisms to break down pollutants in the water. The CICERO Project is also ongoing, improving water clarity and supporting the regeneration of filtering species and marine vegetation.

In the field of education, year-round training sessions will be held for workers and clients on environmental best practices, along with awareness campaigns on social media and in physical spaces throughout the marina. The goal is to continue building a more conscious and participatory sustainability culture among customers and visitors.

Along these lines, Marina Ibiza once again celebrates its Environmental Children’s Regatta in collaboration with the Ibiza Yacht Club, a day that combines sport, education, and seabed cleaning activities, actively involving children in the conservation of their environment.

All these actions are planned to be rolled out throughout the year with a practical, realistic, and evolving approach. In doing so, Marina Ibiza consolidates its position as a leading sustainable marina in the Mediterranean, promoting a port model that lives in harmony with its natural surroundings and encourages a more respectful way of experiencing and enjoying the sea.
