The championship will also have a special significance as it will be held on African soil for the first time since 1996, reinforcing the importance of this edition within the class’s international calendar.
Among the contenders will be Balearic sailor Daniel Capa, a member of Club Nàutic s’Estanyol, who will form part of the Spanish national team of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation. The Mallorcan arrives at the World Championship in exceptional sporting form, after being crowned Spanish Optimist champion last April, a title that confirms his high level and consolidates his position as one of the leading national figures in the class.
As for the official schedule, teams are expected to arrive on the 18th of June, while registration and measurement sessions will take place during the first days of the event. The opening ceremony will be held on the 19th of June, and the fleet races will begin on the 20th of June. The programme also includes the Team Racing World Championship, scheduled for the 23rd and the 24th of June, before the final stage of the individual competition, which will conclude on the 27th of June with the closing ceremony.
In this way, the Optimist World Championship will bring together young sailors from every continent for several days, in a competition that combines the sporting level expected of a world championship with the spirit of coexistence among international delegations. For Daniel Capa, his participation in Tangier represents a new international experience in his Optimist career and an opportunity to compete against a large and demanding fleet.
