Mallorcan Pau Toni Homar imposes himself on the first day of the Kakapo Open Race 2025

The Kakapo Open Race 2025 live yesterday, June 17th, its first effective journay of competition with the celebration of three tests in Barcelona waters, framed within Spain’s Adapted and Inclusive Sailing Championship.

At 11:09 a.m. the Delta signal was given and the 20 Hansa 303 class individual sailors sailed to the water from Barcelona International Sailing Center (BISC), starting a journey marked by very stable and favorable wind conditions. With a south component wind (150°-180°) and a medium intensity of 6 knots, the regattas Committee has been able to complete the three programmed races. Towards 3 p.m., the fleet has returned to land with very good sensations and an overall satisfaction between the participants.

Pau Toni Homar, from Club de Vela Port d’Andratx, leads the general classification of the Kakapo Open Race 2025, who has imposed himself in the three carried out races. He is followed by British Rory McKinna, from Clyde Cruising Club, with three second places, and a third position for Jordi Cargol, also from CVPA, with three thirds. In the female category, the first ranked is Jana Mestre, also from CVPA.

According to the provisional classification of Spain’s Adapted Sailing Championship, the leadership also falls on sailors from Club de Vela Port d’Andratx. Pau Toni Homar occupies the first position, followed by Jordi Cargol in second place and Jana Mestre in third position, leaded also by the female category of the statewide championship.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 18th, three races are expected from 12 a.m. for the individual category. On the side, the registry process will be carried out for the sailors registered in doubles category, in inclusive sailing format, which will take pace from Thursday, June 19th.

The Kakapo Open Race 2025 is organized by the Catalan Sailing Federation,  Mi Álex Foundation and Barcelona Capital Nàutica Foundation, and forms part of the Adapted and Inclusive Sailing Spain’s Championship. The event counts with the sponsorship of Diagonal Mar, Mi Tres Torres Clinic and Ribé y Salat, with the support of Barcelona Esports, Esportcat de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Hansa 303 Spain’s Association, Hansa Class Association, the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, the Real Club Marítimo de Barcelona, the Royal Spain’s Sailing Federation and the collaboration of Marina Port Fòrum.
