The international date reunited 38 sailors and had 15 races with two discards, in which the young Balearic athlete showed a great regularity and firmness in decisive moments.
Castro concluded his participation with a total net score of 27 points, after securing three race victories (races 2, 4, and 11) and other notable results with second-place finishes in races 5, 9, and 15. His discarded results were a 15th place in race 7 and a 7th place in race 12. This performance allowed him to surpass Greek sailor Foivos Koualis, who finished second with 41 points, and his compatriot Evangelos Kyrizakos, who completed the podium with 61 points.
Joshua’s victory carries added significance, as it confirms his excellent progression following the bronze medal at the European Championship held in April in Ostia, Italy. Moreover, it revalidates the world title he won last year in Balatonföldvár, Hungary, in the U13 category, marking his second consecutive world championship. His record also includes the 2024 European title in Athens, Greece, positioning him as a major promise in Balearic windsurfing across the youth and junior categories.
The championship held in Welsh waters also highlighted the strength of CMSAP’s development program. Biel Martorell, Castro’s teammate at the club, earned a commendable eighth place, confirming his standing among the world’s best in the U15 category. Meanwhile, young María Martorell competed in the U13 category, finishing 25th overall in the mixed classification, gaining valuable international experience.
Castro’s double world championship in two different categories in just two years, along with his consistent performances at European and World events, make him one of Spain’s leading young windsurfing talents.
