The Unió Socorristes Mallorca union has called a general strike in Palma for June 24th over the lack of infrastructure for professionals on the city’s beaches.

YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!The workers announced the move on their Instagram profile, stating that the City Council had allegedly “broken off relations” with them after the latest meeting with the Deputy Mayor and Councillor for the Environment, Llorenç Bauzá.
The lifeguards claim that the beaches lack essential facilities such as first-aid modules, toilets, showers and buoys, arguing that this “is not management, but abandonment.”
They have also warned of a situation of “total insecurity,” with “constant thefts” affecting beach users and even the lifeguard service itself. “Safety is not an expense, it is a necessity,” they stated.
For these reasons, they have called a demonstration on May 28th in Plaça de Cort, followed by a general strike on June 24th.
