The Illes Balears Palma Futsal club visited the boat to take its official photo for the 2026-27 league season aboard the traditional barca de bou, surrounded by Mallorca’s natural heritage.
Second Vice-President of the Consell de Mallorca and Councillor for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sport Pedro Bestard, Island Sports Director Toni Prats, and Mayor of Andratx Estefanía Gonzalvo welcomed the club’s 14 players and coaching staff, led by president José Tirado and head coach Antonio Vadillo.
The photograph highlights the details of La Balear, a century-old barca de bou built in 1929 that has preserved the traditional sailing technique associated with trawling.
Councillor Bestard highlighted the connection between sport and heritage represented by the photograph. “The combination of sport and heritage is the key to this photograph. What better choice than a club like Illes Balears Palma Futsal, which has made history, alongside a historic barca de bou that is part of Mallorca’s maritime heritage,” he said.
He added that “La Balear is not just any vessel: for the people of Mallorca, it has become a symbol of the recovery of the island’s seafaring past.”
