July begins with maritime instability and Tramuntana winds

The first thing everyone checks before the weekend arrives is what the weather will be like.

That’s why at Passion for the Sea, in collaboration with Àngel Muñoz, creator of Meteo de les Illes, we offer every Friday the weather forecast so you can plan your activities in advance and enjoy the sea with all the necessary information.

This Friday, July 3rd, a day with mostly clear or partly cloudy skies is expected, with temperatures that will remain fairly stable, although maximum values could see a slight increase. The wind will blow from the north, moderate to strong in Menorca, where gusts of up to 60 km/h are expected. In Mallorca and the Pitiusas, winds will be light to moderate.

Starting Saturday, July 4th, the Balearic Islands will enter a weekend marked by maritime instability due to strong Tramuntana winds. The stormy conditions will significantly worsen sea state, especially in the north of Menorca, where waves could exceed two meters in height. In northwestern Mallorca, rough seas are also expected, with waves reaching up to 1.5 meters.

Conditions will be more adverse in Menorca and northwestern Mallorca, where the northerly wind will be the main driver of the deteriorating maritime conditions. In Ibiza and Formentera, an increase in wave height will also be noticeable, with waves potentially exceeding one meter, although the storm will be less intense than in the rest of the archipelago.

By Sunday, July 5th, the Tramuntana wind will persist, gradually shifting to Mistral during the final hours of the day. Wave activity will remain significant, with waves again exceeding one meter in some areas, although conditions will gradually stabilize in Ibiza and Formentera.

For this reason, Passion for the Sea recommends exercising extreme caution when carrying out outdoor activities and always checking the weather forecast before going out to sea.
