Ibiza JoySail, the indispensable regatta for the Corinthian class

The Ibiza JoySail, one of the most important regattas of the Mediterranean, has been welcoming sailing and prestigious captains and crews from all over the world, as a key event of the end of the season in the Mediterranean, does not stop growing.

With a base in Marina Ibiza, it stands out due to its good organization, fun and competitiveness at water, in addition to counting with an attractive social events program on land, which turns it into an interesting proposition for professional sailors as well as sailing amateurs.

Nacho Postigo, regattas’ director explains: “The fact that we accept Corinthian inscriptions has turned into one of the main appeals of this event. Basically, the owners do not need to optimize their boats to participate. They can ‘come as they are’, since there will be a class in which they can compete.”

“We welcome high level competition boats as well as cruising boats and, even, those owners that simply want to start in the competition in this beautiful Mediterranean area.”

And he continues: “In the first edition of the Ibiza Joy, five years ago, we had four inscriptions, between them the “Dark Horse”, which had never participated in a regatta. This strong Corinthian spirit reinforces what we proposed since the beginning of the Ibiza Joysail, since for some owners participating in some of the most important superyacht events can feel overwhelming.”

Even though an independent Corinthian category does not exist, the boats that meet the requirements can compete for the Corinthian Trophy in every one of its classes. To compete  as Corinthian, in addition to some limitations in the sailing configuration and the obligation of sailing in cruising mode, it is only allowed a maximum of four professional sailors, in addition to the permanent crew.

For 2025, the event, to which you can only go with an invitation, will have twenty-two registered ships and it will be celebrated from September 18th to the 21st, 2025, at the exclusive Marina Ibiza. This is the maximum number of possible inscriptions, for space reasons and with the objective of guaranteeing the best service quality to all the participants.

At 2024’s Ibiza JoySail, half the fleet participated as Conrinthian and seven of the fifteen podium places were for this category’s participants. Daniel van Starrenburg, owner of the “Aurelius”, a 100 feet sloop, affirms that the Ibiza JoySail is one of the best kept secrets of the nautical calendar. This year he will return to defend his title.

2025’s fleet still hasn’t confirmed if it will sail as Corinthian, but it counts with ships that go from the competitive Y-Yachts, Shambo and Viento,  both returning to the regatta, to the Cervo, a 128 feet sloop built by Vitters, so the competition will be just as exciting for the Corinthian and the professionals.

The “Moat” (Swan 115) will return to try to defend its four victories in its class in the four editions of the Ibiza JoySail. Even though it won’t compete as a Corinthian, its owner, Juan Ball, enjoys the casual ambience of the regatta: “We are a friend group, we respect one another, we help each other and we have fun.”, said at the end of 2024’s edition.

The Ibiza JoySail is much more than a regatta, since, in a familiar and friendly ambience, offers, in addition to the spectacular regattas, it’s a social events program for sailors and attendants.

The exciting regattas’ combination and the joyful activity on land turn it into a reference regatta in the Mediterranean superyacht circuit.
