Nacho Postigo, director of Ibiza JoySail, reflects on the regatta's evolution over its five years of existence: “Honestly, I’m the first to be surprised. The first year there were four boats, and this year we have 21, with five or six on the waiting list.”
Postigo emphasizes that the regatta has become almost exclusive: “In the end, it has become an invitation-only regatta. That shows the high level of interest.” This approach has been key to maintaining the quality of organization, both on land and at sea. “There are people who want to be in the regatta because of the quality of the organization. If we can achieve that, the regatta has a strong future,” he states.
The experience of participating in Ibiza JoySail is unique, allowing all boats, owners, and crews to share the same atmosphere and sensations: “We want all boats to coexist in an exclusive space reserved for participants,” Nacho explains, adding that this contributes to the atmosphere and quality of the event.
Regarding the regatta’s future, Postigo is optimistic: “It’s unusual to achieve this in just four editions. This year we’ve had overwhelming success.” He adds, “The first year we had four boats. The second year, eleven—that was great progress. The third year, thirteen, and the fourth year, eighteen, only because two couldn’t make it last minute. And this year, twenty-one, which is the limit we set due to space and to ensure we can provide the best service to participants.”
As for this year’s new features, Postigo mentions the “Outer Wind” and expects broad participation. “What matters is that you don’t need to optimize your boat to be part of this regatta; you can come just as you are, and there’s a class for you.” Ibiza JoySail places great importance on the “Corinthian spirit,” where participants enjoy the race without needing to completely modify their vessels. “We love having highly competitive racing yachts, but we also value boats that retain their cruising essence,” he concludes.
Ibiza JoySail is much more than a high-level regatta; it’s a ‘family & friends’ event designed to offer equally engaging and fun activities for participants and their guests. It combines thrilling sailing days with exceptional onshore experiences. Its relaxed yet competitive vibe has made this regatta a standout on the Mediterranean superyacht circuit.
