Ibiza JoySail, a key event in the superyacht regattas calendar in the Mediterranean

The fifth edition of the Ibiza JoySail, organized together with STP Shipyard Palma and Marina Ibiza, reaffirmed once again its reputation as one of the most exciting, funnier and most highlighted superyacht regattas of the Mediterranean.

For four days of spectacular regattas, twenty-two extraordinary ships gathered at Marina Ibiza to say goodbye to the Mediterranean season with an event that combines high-level sailing, Corinthian spirit and the unmatchable magic of Ibiza and Formentera.

The regatta for superyachts, Ibiza JoySail, keeps growing in volume and essence. Its success resides in a singular equilibrium, since the professional regattas intertwine with the relaxed ambience and the magic that characterizes Ibiza and Formentera. Mark Sadler, S/Y Ganesha tactician, considers this event as a “wonderful place to reunite with sailors from all over the world that go to the JoySail. It’s a great place to reconnect with people of the sector and the superyachts sailing world”.

Half the fleet of this year competed in the Corinthian modality, a distinctive characteristic of the event that allows owners and non professional crews to compete with some of the best world sailors: olympic medallists, world champions, sailing veterans and young promises. The Corinthian category allows not modifying the ship as it’s prepared in cruising mode for competition and also not contracting an extra crew.

The professionality and passion combination is what turns the Ibiza JoySail into an unique event. The regatta celebrates the end of season between family and friends, with no false pretense, and offers an ambience in which competition is combined with the party spirit. There, more friendships are created rather than rivalries; after a day a t sea, sailors gather at the hospitality to share impressions between cocktails, laughter and music at sunset, with Dalt Vila as the background.

Every regattas day is different, which reflects the versatility of the waters and the geography that surrounds Ibiza and Formentera. From the long journeys to the more closed tracks, the Regattas Committee directed by Nacho Postigo, designed different challenges to put strategy, teamwork and experience of the five classes that sailed in waters of Es Vedrá, the bay of Talamanca and Formentera to the test. This experience captivated teams, as Thomas Lundqvist, from Nostromo, pointed out: “Sailing around the island is incredible. I love landscapes, water and wind”.

The meteorological conditions varied from strong east winds to soft breezes, which caused ideal regatta situations for the ships, for the high-performance carbon ones as well as for the classics.

This diversity is one of the reasons for which the shipowners return year after year: Ibiza JoySail combines the real competition’s excitement with the pleasure of sailing through one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Beyond the regattas, Ibiza JoySail has gained a reputation as the event that celebrates Corinthian values: the sporting, the inclusion and the pleasure of sailing. For many yacht owners, the event represents a return to the true essence of sailing: teamwork, respect for the sea, and the joy of sharing the experience, far beyond the mere ambition of winning trophies.

Naturally, Ibiza JoySail would be incomplete without its unmistakable atmosphere on shore. The social events program, held at Marina Ibiza, offered sailors and their guests the perfect complement to the intensity of racing at sea. From an elegant dinner at the restaurant Roto to the relaxed dockside gatherings that stretched late into the night, every event reflected the spirit of the island, vibrant, welcoming, and full of character.

As Karibu’s captain William Dovey put it: “It’s a pleasure to be here. The racing is fantastic, the scenery is spectacular, and at the end of the day you return to beautiful Ibiza town, where the social events keep the party going all night.”

For the crews, it was an opportunity to unwind, socialise, and enjoy themselves. For the owners, it was a reminder of why Ibiza JoySail is much more than just a regatta. It is the gathering of a community united by their passion for sailing, friendship, and adventure.

Five years on, Ibiza JoySail has become a must-attend event on the international superyacht racing calendar, and its prestige now extends far beyond the Balearic Islands. What began as a “Family & Friends” end-of-season rendezvous has evolved into an unmissable event that attracts yachts of every style and size. François Nuyts, owner of L’Hippocampe, summed it up perfectly: “The format is incredible. Just look at the quality of the yachts, the variety of designs, and the different sail configurations each carries.”

The professionalism of the organisation, the quality of the hospitality, and the stunning surroundings make it one of the standout events of the Mediterranean season.

As the final race came to an end and the sun set on the horizon, a palpable sense of achievement and joy filled the marina. The teams that had battled at sea came together to celebrate under Ibiza’s night sky. Perhaps the trophies went to the fastest yachts, but the true victory belonged to everyone who shared the experience.

As sails were lowered and the fleet prepared to depart, some for winter maintenance or refit, others in search of new adventures, it was clear that Ibiza JoySail is not merely an event, but a spirit of connection, competition, and celebration that grows stronger with every edition.
