‘Horizontes’, Hugo Ramón’s book about his journey as a sailor in solitary

Loneliness, fear, humor and salt that leaves time at sea. All that -and more- sails in the pages of ‘Horizontes’, the first book of oceanic sailor Hugo Ramón, published as the beginning of a trilogy in which the author reviews his journey as a sailor in solitary.

The book is presented two months from Ramón taking departure of his fourth Mini Transat, next September 21st, from Les Sables d’Olonne (France), towards Guadalupe, with scale in La Palma (Canary Islands).

‘Horizontes’ recollects the experiences of the Mallorcan athlete in his three first participations in the challenging transatlantic regatta in solitary, but focuses, especially, in the learning formed between waves, in defeats and triumphs that are not seen from solid land, and the necessity of returning again and again to the sea.

“This book tries to describe the attraction that has had the ocean over me since I first got on a boat, before having use of reason. It is based on the annotations of my log books and memories that, no matter the years, have stuck in my head. I have not censored anything and I have tried being honest so that the reader can comprehend and feel what it means living alone between waves, not only in the sporting and survival feeling, but also from the point of view of the mind”, explains the author.

The tone of the book, sometimes introspective and often raw. It is a narration from the inside, from the skin burnt by the sun and the head shaken by the days without land at sight. Hugo Ramón signs a personal testimony about what it means bidding for improbable dreams, with the honesty of who has lived with his own limits.
