Freediving, sustainability and community: this is the Conscious Freediving Center

24th March 2026 by Nautimedia

Mallorca will soon have a new space dedicated to freediving with the launch of the Conscious Freediving Center at the newly renovated facilities of Club de Mar, a project promoted by Carlos Samblás, owner of the Falcao Uno, which aims to bring this discipline closer to people through an accessible, personalized approach connected to the marine environment.

The owner of the Falcao Uno visited the studios of Passion for the Sea to tell us all about this initiative, which was created with the aim of offering a different way of understanding freediving, not only as a sport, but also as a tool for personal development and well-being.

During the interview, Samblás explained that freediving goes far beyond simply holding your breath underwater. “It is a sport practiced in the water, but it also involves many activities outside the water. It is a form of preparation to control the body, the breath, and to lower your heart rate,” he said.

Although its competitive side can be demanding, the project that will soon open its doors at Club de Mar is focused on its more accessible dimension, aimed at all kinds of people. In this regard, he especially highlighted its physical and mental benefits, stating that “it gives you much greater lung capacity and makes you more resilient to stress.”

The origin of the center is directly linked to Samblás’s own experience with this discipline, which has shaped the way he approaches everyday life. “I have been able to share viewpoints with wonderful and highly professional people, and we have realized that freediving has a much more spiritual side.”

It is from that personal experience that the idea emerged to create a space where other people can experience those same benefits, developing greater self-control and learning to manage stress.

One of the center’s distinctive features will be its commitment to personalization. Before starting the activity, users will undergo an individual assessment, which will allow training to be adapted to each person’s characteristics.

The program includes breathing techniques, meditation, specific physical training, and different freediving modalities, both in the pool and at sea, with the aim of allowing each student to progress at their own pace. “Each person is different, and we adapt the practice to who they are and what they are looking for,” Samblás explained.

Far from traditional competition, the center’s approach is based on personal improvement. “We want each person to have their own competition and to see their evolution over time.” To achieve this, the center will combine pool practice, which is key to getting started safely, with sea outings, where students will be able to experience freediving in a natural environment. “Being down there, holding your breath and looking around you, is a feeling you can experience in very few places,” Samblás said.

In addition, the project includes regular outings aboard the Falcao Uno, where meditation sessions, physical training, and sea practice will also take place, creating a more complete and community-oriented experience.

And beyond training, the Conscious Freediving Center is also being launched with a strong environmental component. The initiative forms part of a broader project called Fundación Almas Marinas, linked to awareness-raising and the protection of the marine environment.

Planned activities include awareness campaigns and seabed clean-up initiatives, with the aim of involving participants in caring for the environment. “Our idea is to create a community of people who are aware of and committed to the marine environment,” Samblás said.

The plan is for the center to begin operating this summer, with initial open days at the end of May and the start of courses in June.

With this initiative, Mallorca adds a new offering that combines sport, well-being, and environmental awareness, further strengthening its position as a destination linked to a more sustainable and environmentally connected nautical culture.
