The championship is being contested at the facilities of the Specialized Sailing Training Centre of Cádiz Bay, in El Puerto de Santa María, a landmark venue for Spanish sailing that once again takes centre stage in the national competitive scene.
The competition features teams from universities across the country, with representation from regions such as Andalusia, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country, Cantabria, the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia, Catalonia and Madrid, reinforcing the national character of the championship.
Among the participating universities are the University of the Balearic Islands, the University of the Basque Country, the University of Cantabria, the University of Cádiz, the University of A Coruña, the University of Murcia, the Technical Universities of Madrid and Valencia, Pompeu Fabra University, and the University of Seville.
One of the most notable aspects of the championship is the strong presence of mixed crews, with male and female sailors sharing the same boat in most teams, reflecting sailing’s commitment to equality and inclusion.
Each team is made up of four sailors, creating a fleet that combines youth, talent and experience in the university competitive scene.
After a previous training day, the competition began on April 15th aboard Raquero-class boats with spinnaker, which add a high technical and tactical component.
The championship is being raced in a round-robin format, in which all teams have faced each other in qualifying series during the first two days. This system rewards consistency and versatility throughout the competition.
Today, Friday, April 17th, the finals will be held and the winning team of this edition will be crowned.
