Final countdown for the XLVI Forced Armies Trophy

Next Saturday, June 21st, the bay of Palma’s waters will host the 46th edition of the Forced Armies Trophy, one of the most emblematic nautical events of the Balearic calendar. The event is organized by Club de Mar-Mallorca, the Naval Commission of Balearic Regattas and the Balearic Sailing Federation.

The competition will reunite ships from Lateen Sailing, Light Sailing, Cruising Ships and Monotype classes, consolidating once more the union spirit between civil society and the Armed Forces, the essence of this trophy since its beginnings almost half a decade ago.

Saturday’s journey will start at 12 a.m.with the races for Lateen Sailing and Light Sailing, followed at 1 p.m. by the Cruisers and Monotypes competitions. The journey will culminate with the awards ceremony, which will take place at 8 p.m. in the Tramuntana building, from the new Club de Mar-Mallorca facilities.

This regatta, whose location rotates annually between different nautical clubs of the localities of Palma and Llucmajor, has turned  into a symbol of twinning between the citizens and the Forced Armies. The Regattas Naval Commission gives its ships a fleet with base in Porto Pi’s Naval Station, while the participants of the nautical clubs contribute with regatta ships in different categories.

The rear admiral Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui was the main founder of this trophy, inspired by the historical facts of Dunkirk during World War II, when a great fleet of small civil ships participated in the rescue of over 300.000 British soldiers.

The participants' registry will stay open until Friday, June 20th, at 12 a.m.
