During the visit, they tested the submerged traps evolution in strategic spots of the marina and explained the process to the 3rd of ESO students, who took the lead and carried out the project during the following academic year.
This work is a part of “PROBLEU”, an European educational initiative linked to the European Union’s mission “Restore our Oceans and Waters”. The program aims to foster oceanic culture and fresh water through the connection between the educational world, the scientific one and the local community. In this case, the project has focused on the biofouling phenomenon and the presence of invasive species at the Mediterranean sea.
“It is an honor for us to participate in initiatives such as this one, where students do not only learn science, but they also live it in first person- Seeing them today explain their work with such implication and enthusiasm is a great reward”, has declared Marina Port de Mallorca’s Captain, José María Roig, after accompanying students during the visit.
From Marina Port de Mallorca activities that promote respect for the marine environment and approach youngsters to the scientific knowledge from a practical and real experience are sustained with enthusiasm.
