Emergency Drill in Camp de Mar

This Thursday, July 17th, an emergency exercise was carried out on the beach of Camp de Mar that required an exemplary deployment of resources and coordination between the beach rescue service, the Andratx Civil Protection Group, the Local Police of Andratx, and the SAMU 061 and 112 teams.

In this drill, a real case of an accidental fall in a rocky area was simulated, requiring a full response protocol including rescue, immobilization, resuscitation, and evacuation. These kinds of exercises are carried out year after year with the aim of practicing real cases in real environments, focusing on coordination among emergency teams.

The action began with the activation of 112 to coordinate the various units. Moreover, the exercise was supervised by the Councillor for Environment and Civil Protection along with the Chief Inspector of the Local Police of Andratx, emergency technicians, and representatives from the company Marsave (responsible for the municipality’s beach services).

The Andratx Town Hall has positively assessed this action, which is part of the Municipal Emergency and Summer Prevention Plan. The coordinator of the lifeguard service stated that “this type of exercise allows us to be prepared to save real lives. Coordination was exemplary and the response time optimal.” Antoni Nicolau, Councillor for Civil Protection of Andratx Town Hall, highlighted that “we don’t like to use the word ‘drill’, as it sounds like just ticking a box. What we want from the Town Hall is to bring the reality of the intervention teams as close as possible. Only then will we achieve quality care and direct benefit for the victim.” He also added that “this type of exercise strengthens the municipality’s commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness in high-traffic areas.”
