Specifically, inspections took place on August 14 and 19 in a restaurant in Ciutadella, in coordination with health inspectors from the regional government.
As a result, authorities seized 72 crabs, 5.48 kg, and five lobsters, three white and two red, that were below the legal size limit. Additionally, the products lacked documentation proving their origin and traceability.
In Mahón, irregularities were reported due to the existence of unauthorized lobster tanks and specimens without the required identification tags. In Sant Lluís, 14 red lobsters were seized as their traceability could not be confirmed.
Furthermore, Seprona revealed that during a recent inspection at the cargo area of Menorca Airport, agents found two pallets of live red lobsters imported from France and destined for several restaurants in Ciutadella.
The shipment, which initially lacked proper documentation and labeling, was immobilized for several hours until its traceability could be verified. Once confirmed, the lobsters were released for delivery to the respective restaurants, while administrative proceedings remain open due to irregularities detected in the labeling.
