After having to cancel last year’s edition due to weather conditions, the Balearic Port Authority is once again organizing an Open Day to showcase the work carried out at the port and bring the sea closer to the public.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTEROn Saturday, June 7, the Port of Maó will open its doors for “Viu el port,” a day full of activities and workshops for the whole family.
The sea, Balearic nautical culture, and the port itself will take center stage in this Open Day event, with countless activities taking place throughout the day in various locations around the Port of Maó.
Culture, tradition, music, sports, and maritime history will be the main themes for attendees to enjoy. Highlights include guided tours of the shipyard, the Favàritx lighthouse, the Illa del Rei, and the Fishermen’s Guild. Visitors can also explore the Salvamar (Maritime Rescue vessel), meet the port police, learn about traditional Menorcan boats, and visit the mussel farms of La Solona.
Those interested in water sports can enjoy a canoeing exhibition, try out a canoe themselves, discover Dragon boats, or set sail on a sailing boat around the port.
Of course, the family event also includes music, dance, and even equestrian shows. At the Cruise Pier, there will be performances of traditional and modern dances, as well as various children’s activities.
Note that some of the activities require prior registration. You can view the full “Viu el port” schedule — including all activities, workshops, talks, times, and exact locations — at the following link: https://viuelport.com/
In support of sustainable mobility, the port authority will provide a free shuttle train for attendees to travel around the port — a way to reduce traffic and emissions.
