De-seasonalization redefines the positioning of the Balearic Islands in the nautical charter market

22nd December 2025 by Agencies

The nautical charter market in the Balearic Islands reflects a structural shift in the sector: reduced seasonality, an increase in last-minute bookings, and a gradual shift toward less congested months. This new scenario is forcing the archipelago to readjust its positioning in the boat rental market, amid price pressure and changing sailing habits.

GlobeSailor, an agency specializing in boat rentals and tailor-made cruises, closes 2025 with results in line with 2024, but with clear signs of changing consumer behavior among sailors.

Last-minute bookings have increased by 15%, while the shoulder season is gaining prominence, with a 24.7% rise in June. Demand for skippered services has also grown (+41% since 2019), as has demand for fully crewed charters (+23%), driving up the average value of trips.

The Spanish market shows a notable downturn, particularly in the Balearic Islands, where sharp price increases have led to reduced demand.

Meanwhile, Greece, Italy, and Croatia continue to lead the international boat charter market.

The Mediterranean is losing ground due to heatwaves and port congestion, factors that are pushing sailors toward less crowded destinations. The Cyclades, the French Riviera, and the Indian Ocean have all recorded average growth of 27% compared to 2024.

Among emerging destinations, Sweden stands out, with a 116% increase over six years and a +46.4% rise between 2024 and 2025, driven by calm waters and milder summer temperatures.

At the same time, the traditional summer peak is losing weight in the annual distribution of bookings. Since 2019, departures in July and August have fallen from 48% to 38%, while the shoulder season has seen the following increases:

  • +50% in the first quarter of 2025 (driven by the Caribbean)
  • +24.7% in June
  • +1.3% in September

This shift shows that sailors are increasingly seeking milder climates and less crowded destinations.

The average weekly price for bareboat charters (sailing yachts and catamarans) will reach €4,456 in 2025, representing a 36% increase compared to 2019. Cabin cruises have risen by 23%, reaching €3,747 per cabin for two people.

“To find attractive prices, we encourage off-season departures and group travel to split total costs. In addition, many clients are increasingly choosing catamarans and skippered services, which naturally raises the average price,” said Olivier Albahary, founder of GlobeSailor.
