Countdown to the first Casa Calicó Trobada at Club Nàutic Portitxol

This Saturday, March 21st, the Bay of Palma will host the first Casa Calicó Trobada, a fishing gathering that will bring together boats from different yacht clubs across Mallorca for a dynamic and distinctive day on the water.

The initiative was launched by Casa Calicó and Club Nàutic Portitxol, at the suggestion of fisherman Paco, known as “Paconis,” who is popular on social media for his fishing videos. The aim is for each boat to catch the highest possible number of different species, with a maximum of two specimens per species. This format requires participants to move between fishing areas, adapt, and search for different types of fish throughout the day. “It’s more entertaining because you don’t stay in one specific spot, you have to keep moving and look for different kinds of fish,” says Guiem Tomás, owner of Casa Calicó.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. in front of La Seu, the meeting point from which the ten participating boats will set off to start a competition focused more on the variety of catches than on quantity.

In this first edition, boats from clubs such as the Real Club Náutico de Palma, Club Nàutic S’Arenal, Club Nàutic Cala Gamba, and Club Nàutic Portitxol itself, among others, will take part, bringing together around thirty fishermen.

At 1:30 p.m., everyone will gather at the facilities of Club Nàutic Portitxol, where the catches will be weighed and counted, followed by the presentation of boat trophies, with prizes such as rods and sport fishing equipment, as well as a special award for the largest triggerfish. “Paco, who became known for the triggerfish, is actively taking part in this trobada and has created a prize for the largest triggerfish: a replica of this species made of wood by himself,” explains Guiem.

The day will conclude with a torrada get-together, highlighting the social atmosphere that surrounds this kind of event.

With this first edition, the Casa Calicó Trobada is presented as a fresh new initiative that combines sport, the sea, and fellowship, once again establishing Club Nàutic Portitxol as a meeting point for fishing enthusiasts in the Balearic Islands.
