Countdown for the 17th Setmana de Vela - Trofeu DURAN

Light and lateen sailing will share the spotlight in the great nautical and sports party of the club. Tomorrow the competition with races for the Optimist category begins.

More than 200 vessels will take part in the traditional Setmana de Vela - Trofeu DURAN, a race organized by the Club Nàutic Cala Gamba that will unite once again light and lateen sailing during the next two weekends.

The competition, one of the most outstanding events of the calendar and that this year celebrates its seventeenth edition, will start tomorrow with the races for the Optimist children class. The organization has completed three daily races for the Optimist class, as long as meteorological conditions allow it.

For the Optimist, the regatta will qualify for the ABCIO Cup of the Balearic Sailing Federation, so the category has more than 150 registered athletes. The competition will take place at the bay of Palma and will start from 12:30 a.m. on Saturday as well as Sunday.

The manager of Club Nàutic Cala Gamba, Joan Marc Rigo, has ensured that the Setmana de Vela - Trofeu DURAN is a very consolidated competition, shown by the high figure of participation: “It is a regatta that marks the start of the spring/summer season and, seeing that every year it does not drop below 200 sailors, I think that people know it well and await this race with excitement”.

Joan Marc Rigo has also pointed out the commitment of the sponsor, who has supported this Setmana de Vela from the start. “The support of Duran Materiales de Construcción is of great help, because it is an event that carries many organization expenses and we want to thank the involvement of the company in this children's regatta”, he has pointed out.

The 17th Setmana de Vela - Trofeu DURAN will continue next week, when the ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes and Lateen Sailing will compete. In the ILCA 6 case, it will be a Federation Cup, a condition that benefits the presence of athletes from Menorca and Ibiza.
