With a second and first place on the third day of the competition, the Catalan-Mallorcan duo formed by Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona has climbed from sixth to first place on a very tight leaderboard. The Spaniards lead their closest rivals, the British pair Hannah Bristow and James Taylor, by just one point, and the third-placed Italians Giacomo Ferrari and Alessandra Dubbini, by two points. Over the five races held so far, Xammar and Cardona have posted two firsts, one second and two fifths, which means they still have their discard ‘wildcard’ intact.
Silvia Mas and Alejandro de Maqua, meanwhile, are in 13th position in a fleet of 49 boats. The Catalans have recorded thre very solid results (2-5-6), and two more modest ones (12-13), which reflect their limited time of sailing together. They are just three points away from the top ten, which is their main goal in high-level world championship
After these first three days and five qualifying races, the fleet will will be split tomorrow into gold and silver groups, with both duos from the Spanish Sailing Federation’s pre-Olympic team placed in the gold group. Six races are scheduled in the final series, which will determine the top ten teams that will advance to Saturday’s Medal Race.
