Club Nàutic s’Arenal to host the Iberdrola League once again

Club Nàutic s’Arenal will once again become a venue for the Iberdrola League, hosting the third event of the circuit, which will take place from May 16th to 17th.

The Real Federación Española de Vela has already outlined the roadmap for the 2026 Iberdrola League, which will decide the Spanish women’s sailing champions. Now in its sixth edition, the circuit, firmly established as a benchmark for women’s sailing in Spain, will once again travel across the country with five events that promise maximum competitiveness and strategic growth in participation.

As the main new feature, the Iberdrola League is opening participation to teams representing regional sailing federations, not only yacht clubs, with the aim of further promoting the development of women’s sailing throughout Spain.

The season will retain the successful format of previous editions, with four two-day weekend events and a three-day grand final coinciding with the October public holiday.

The selection of venues follows the rotation policy of the RFEV, seeking to bring the competition to all Spanish coastlines, always under the technical requirement of having one-design fleets that ensure equal conditions and the highest sporting level.

The confirmed events for 2026 are:

The 2026 calendar also marks the return of venues such as Arenal and Vilagarcía de Arousa, which, after hosting stages in previous editions, rejoin the circuit bringing their organizational experience and excellent sailing conditions.

The major regulatory innovation this year is greater flexibility in team representation. From now on, teams may compete not only under their yacht clubs, but also representing their regional federations.

This change aims to facilitate the entry of new teams and sailors. By allowing athletes from the same autonomous community to compete under their federation’s banner, regions that previously had no presence in the circuit will be able to join and compete at the highest level.

Teams will consist of five women in four of the events, and four sailors in the September regatta. To score points in the overall circuit, two crew members must remain fixed throughout the season, while the rest may rotate.

In addition, the Iberdrola League continues to be a low-budget circuit. The organization provides the one-design boats at each venue, and beyond the entry fee, teams only need to cover travel and accommodation costs.

At present, nearly ten teams have already been confirmed, maintaining the strong participation seen in previous editions. Noteworthy is the inclusion of new regions and clubs, as well as the consolidation of crews that made their debut in last year’s Calpe final and have now committed to competing in the full 2026 circuit.

With the sponsorship of Iberdrola and the Universo Mujer program of the Consejo Superior de Deportes, the 2026 Iberdrola League gets underway with the clear goal of remaining the leading platform for the development of female talent in Spanish sailing.
