The appointment represents significant recognition of the work carried out in recent years with the Six Metre class, one of the most historic and prestigious fleets in international sailing. The class has found an ideal base for training and competition at Club Nàutic S’Arenal and in Palma Bay.
During the same vote, members of the International Six Metre Association also selected the Royal Irish Yacht Club in Dublin as the venue for the 2031 Six Metre World Championship.
ISMA President Louis Heckly welcomed the outcome of the vote: “We are delighted to confirm these two exceptional venues for future Six Metre championships. Both clubs submitted outstanding proposals and demonstrated a strong commitment to the class. ISMA looks forward to working closely with both organizing authorities in the years ahead.”
On behalf of Club Nàutic S’Arenal, Ferran Muniesa highlighted the club’s pride in being entrusted with the organization of the continental championship. “It is a great privilege for Club Nàutic S’Arenal to host the 2028 European Championship. Mallorca has a long-standing tradition in international sailing, and we look forward to welcoming the Six Metre class for what we expect will be a fantastic championship,” he said.
Muniesa also emphasized the strong relationship the club has built with the fleet in recent years.
“The Six Metre class has chosen CNA as its training base and the venue for several events over recent seasons, including the Arenal Cup and the Mallorca Series. This selection is a reward for the work carried out by the club, the quality of our racecourse, and the efforts of our entire team to provide crews with a sporting and social experience of the highest standard,” he added.
The appointment of CNA as host of the 2028 European Championship further strengthens Mallorca’s position as one of the leading international destinations for competitive sailing. Palma Bay’s sailing conditions, the island’s connectivity, and the organizational expertise of its yacht clubs have made the area a benchmark venue for sailors and teams from around the world.
The exact dates of the 2028 Six Metre European Championship will be announced at a later stage.
In the meantime, the class’s international calendar will continue with the 2026 European Championship, to be held in Geneva this July, and the 2027 Six Metre World Championship, scheduled to take place in Helsinki from August 8th to the 14th. The 2029 Six Metre World Championship will be hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo, Italy.
With this selection, Club Nàutic S’Arenal adds another milestone to its track record as a host of major sailing events and further consolidates its relationship with a class that embodies history, tradition, technical excellence, and competition at the highest level.
