The event, sponsored for the first time by Helvetia Castañer Ysasi, combined racing, family cruising, and social activities in the Cabrera Maritime-Terrestrial National Park.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERClub Nàutic S’Arenal hosted another edition of its traditional Social Gathering to Cabrera this weekend, an event included in the 28th Trobades 2026 series that once again brought together the club’s cruising fleet for a unique combination of racing, offshore sailing, and social interaction.
This year's edition attracted 15 yachts divided into the ORC and ORC Social classes, with a total of 61 participants. The event retains the distinctive character that sets it apart from a conventional regatta: many of the boats compete in cruising configuration, with family crews and a relaxed atmosphere that makes the voyage to Cabrera one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the club’s calendar.
The fleet departed from Club Nàutic S’Arenal on Saturday, May 30th, bound for the Cabrera archipelago. The opening leg was sailed in approximately 8 knots of headwind, requiring the fleet to beat southwards across the bay to complete the 24-nautical-mile passage. After rounding Cap Blanc, the breeze gradually eased, making the final stages of the crossing more challenging.
As part of the event organization, Club Nàutic S’Arenal arranged mooring buoy reservations for participating yachts and provided crews with event T-shirts, welcome bags, breakfast, and a traditional “pa amb oli” dinner at Cabrera’s picnic area.
The weekend also produced some memorable moments, including babies sailing aboard several yachts and dolphin sightings enjoyed by a number of crews during the crossing. Following the social dinner, participants spent the night in Cabrera before tackling the return leg the following day.
On Sunday, May 31st, the journey back to the club was marked by very light downwind conditions. The lack of wind meant that much of the fleet initially returned under engine power before a start could finally be given approximately four nautical miles from Cap Blanc, with around 7 knots of breeze allowing competitors to complete a final course of approximately eight nautical miles.
This edition marked the first year of sponsorship by Helvetia Castañer Ysasi. Pilar Ysasi, Managing Director of Castañer Ysasi and Exclusive Agent for Helvetia Insurance in Palma, highlighted the company’s longstanding personal and family connection to the sea.
“For us, this sponsorship is particularly meaningful because the sea and sailing have always been part of our lives. We have been sailing since childhood and strongly believe in supporting yacht clubs and everything they represent. There is no better way to do so than alongside Club Nàutic S’Arenal, a club with a long tradition that we have seen grow into a benchmark institution while always maintaining its close connection to the sea and sailing,” she said.
“We are delighted to collaborate with such an important organization for Mallorca and contribute our small part to its continued success,” she added.
The Social Gathering to Cabrera also served to reinforce the club’s commitment to responsible boating and environmental awareness within the exceptional natural surroundings of the Cabrera Maritime-Terrestrial National Park. Through events such as this, the club seeks to promote good seamanship, respect for the environment, and sensitivity towards protected natural areas.
The 28th Trobades 2026 series, organized by Club Nàutic S’Arenal, consists of eight social regattas designed to promote cruising under sail through an accessible, participatory format open to a wide variety of yachts and crews.
