The Balearic Islands already know their ORC Cruiser champions for 2025. The racecourse set by the committee of the Mahón Maritime Club, organizer of the event, exceeded the fun expectations of the thirty participants who took part in the Balearic ORC Cruiser Championship. ‘Viking IX’ from the Real Club Náutico de Palma, ‘Wanderlust’ from Club Nàutic Ciutadella, ‘Tres Mares’ from Club Nàutic s’Arenal, and ‘Rupit by SETH’ from the Club Marítimo de Mahón were the boats that took victories after three races.

Wind and swell made an appearance at the entrance to the port of Mahón on Sunday, offering challenging and tough conditions for the participants, who ended up worn out after a weekend in which the cruisers were able to show their full potential.

In Class 0-2, the victory went to ‘Viking IX’ skippered by Erik Tejedor, ahead of ‘Yabadaba Too’ by Martín Aizcorbe from RCN Palma, and the local boat ‘Julieta’, skippered by Ruben Serra.

In Class 3, Club Nàutic Ciutadella was the big protagonist as all three podium boats belonged to their club. Victory went to ‘Wanderlust’ skippered by Josep Pons, silver to ‘Bitxet’ by Toni Cavaller, and bronze to ‘Chica Txeca’ by Toni Pons.

‘Tres Mares’ skippered by María Antonia Campins dominated Class 4 ahead of her teammate from Club Nàutic s’Arenal, ‘Dumia’ skippered by Aina Jordi, who took second place and was also the only boat with an all-female crew.

In Class 5, ‘Rupit by Seth’ skippered by Mireia García brought great joy to the organizing club, Mahón Maritime Club, taking the victory ahead of representatives from Club Nàutic Can Picafort, ‘Boomerang’ and ‘Kresal’, skippered by Damià Jaume and Andreu Cirerol respectively.

The trophy ceremony included the participation of the Vice President of the Insular Council, Carmen Reynés; the Sports Councilor of Mahón City Hall, Lázaro Alcaide; the Commander of the Mahón Naval Base, Federico Pérez; and the President of the Mahón Maritime Club, Basilio Ferrer.

As part of the Balearic Championship regatta, on Saturday, June 7, an impressive coastal race was held with the start in front of the old Maritime Station of Mahón. The race was sponsored by the Balearic Port Authority and was part of the activities held on the occasion of the Open Doors Day.

The race was a port start, sailing to the Isla del Aire, and returning to the port of Mahón. The overall winner, as well as winner of Class 3, was ‘Wanderlust’ from CN Ciutadella, while ‘Yabadaba Too’, ‘Tres Mares’, and ‘Rupit by Seth’ were winners in Classes 0-2, 4, and 5 respectively.

The trophy presentation of the Balearic Port Authority regatta was chaired by its president in the Balearics, Javier Sanz, and his counterpart from the Mahón Maritime Club, Basilio Ferrer, on Saturday night.
