Club de Mar-Mallorca today inaugurated its new pedestrian walkways, a key step within its transformation process that symbolizes the club’s determination to open itself up to the city and strengthen its connection with the urban environment and the port of Palma.

The event was attended by the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez; the Balearic Government’s regional minister for Business, Self-Employment and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro García; the regional minister for Housing, Territory and Mobility of the Balearic Government, José Luís Mateo; the president of the Balearic Port Authority (APB), Javier Sanz; and the president of Club de Mar-Mallorca, Borja de la Rosa, along with members and other figures linked to the club and to Balearic nautical life.

This new infrastructure, integrated into the club’s ambitious renovation project, has made it possible to remove the physical barriers that historically separated the premises from the surrounding urban environment. As a result, pedestrian access is now easier and the direct connection with the port and the city has been strengthened.

During his speech, the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, stated that “Club de Mar-Mallorca is now ready to once again play a decisive role in shaping the new city model that we are building, both from the public administrations and from the private sector. This model is that of a modern, sea-facing, cohesive and accessible city, in which Club de Mar-Mallorca will be one of its unquestionable landmarks.”

He added: “These facilities play a fundamental role in the major city project represented by Palma Culture & Innovation Bay, in which the seafront and the port are a key element.”

Likewise, the president of Club de Mar-Mallorca, Borja de la Rosa, stressed that “today we are making a reality of the port-city union project on which public administrations and private initiative have worked together, represented in this case by Club de Mar-Mallorca, an institution with almost 60 years of history and one that forms part of the landscape and maritime heritage of this land.”

The opening of the walkways will allow residents and visitors to enjoy a space with a wide commercial and restaurant offering, as well as activities linked to recreational sailing, in an environment that combines modernity, sustainability and respect for its identity. All of this while maintaining the values that have defined Club de Mar-Mallorca since its foundation in 1969: commitment, excellence and discretion, consolidating it as a unique enclave in the Mediterranean.

During his remarks, regional minister for Business Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro reiterated that the new infrastructure “turns the club into a more accessible and functional space, facilitating the connection between two key enclaves of the city,” highlighting that “these initiatives are aligned with the Government’s vision, which sees the nautical sector as a strategic pillar.”

For his part, the president of the Balearic Port Authority (APB)Javier Sanz, noted that “if there is one especially remarkable aspect of this project, it is its perfect integration. This action is not an isolated element, but is fully involved in two major transformations that are shaping Palma’s present and future: the redevelopment of the Paseo Marítimo and the process of total transformation of the port, on which we are working from the Balearic Port Authority together with public administrations, companies and civil society.”

All segments of recreational boating

The more than 500 berths at Club de Mar-Mallorca cover all segments of a pastime that forms part of Mallorcan identity: from social boating for vessels from eight metres in length, to large yachts which, as Borja de la Rosa pointed out, “allow us to attract wealth and prosperity, with a multiplying effect that has led our authorities, quite rightly, to consider the priority role of the ‘blue economy’ in the new productive model.”

The complex, which will soon be fully operational, is made up of four spacious interconnected buildings that create open, bright spaces full of vegetation, surrounded by around 300 square metres of vertical gardens that offer a much more integrated view of the complex.

The Club de Mar-Mallorca sailing school, with fully equipped training classrooms and a children’s area designed to foster a love of the sea from a very early age, will be another of the fundamental pillars of the new facilities, alongside the organization of major international events such as the Illes Balears Clàssics Regatta for classic boats and international championships.
