Club de Mar-Mallorca hosts the 46th edition of the Armed Forces Trophy

Next June 21st, 2025, Club de Mar-Mallorca is hosting the XLVI edition of the Armed Forces Regatta, in collaboration with the Spanish Army and the Balearic Sailing Federation. This is a competition for ORC, RI cruising ships, lateen sailing and monotypes.

Once again, Palma’s Bay will be the scenery of the emblematic Armed Forces Regatta. In this edition, the organization of the event depends on Club de Mar-Mallorca, taking over Club Nàutic s’Arenal, last edition’s host.

Armed Forces Regatta, encouraged by the Spanish Army, is a race that is taken over between different clubs of Palma’s Bay (RNCP, CMSAP, Club de Mar and CNA), so that it is celebrated for four years in each club. It was created almost half a century ago with the aim to strengthen the ties between the Army and the civil seamanship, with a competitive nature, but also with a social motive. Its main booster was the rear admiral Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui, inspired by the historical facts that happened in Dunkirk at the beginning of World War II, when a huge fleet of small civil ships participated in the rescue of 300.000 british soldiers  trapped in that French area. Sánchez-Barcáiztegui wanted the regatta to be open to all types of ships propelled by sail, no matter the length of the boat or its displacement, and decided that the the Bay of Palma’s clubs would be responsible for the organization.

According to the regatta’s schedule, the participants’ registration and the instructions delivery will be available up until Friday 20th of June, at 12 AM. On Saturday, June 21st, the competition will kick off at 12 AM with the races for lateen sailing and light sailing, followed at 1 PM by the races for cruising ships and monotypes. Finally, the event will finish at 8 PM with the trophies ceremony, which will be carried out in the Tramontana building, which is in the same club.
