According to the Civil Guard’s Command of the Balearics, the objective of these inspections is reinforcing environmental vigilance and controlling the proliferation of non-authorized moorings in this high ecological value natural space.

During the service, the agents carried out an exhaustive inspection of the moored boats. These operations form part of the protection plan of the marine environment that has been developing coordinatedly with local institutions.

The Armed Institute has pointed out that S'Estany des Peix is a specially sensitive space due to its natural wealth and ecological importance. Therefore, its preservation is fundamental for the ecosystem’s balance as well as for guaranteeing a sustainable use of the coastline.

In this sense, the Civil Guard has reminded that non-authorized mooring can cause severe damage to seafloors, especially on protected species such as posidonia oceanica.

Recently, many reunions with the Council of Formentera with representatives of different organisms and implied administrations have been celebrated with the aim to coordinate more strict control and protection measures of this area.

The objective is to establish a common mark of action to guarantee effective vigilance and to minimize activities that can put the integrity of the enclave into risk.
