DID YOU LIKE THIS CONTENT? WELL... YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!Calvià has taken another step forward in real-time environmental monitoring. The Calvià Town Hall website, within its Beaches and Coastline section, now displays live underwater images from El Toro islet, located in the Ponent Islands Marine Reserve. The camera, installed at a depth of four metres, allows users to observe the seabed 24 hours a day. The live feed is also available through the 23 information kiosks currently operating across the municipality. The website viewer also includes an option to capture high-quality images.
This technological and logistical milestone has been made possible through the collaboration between Calvià Town Hall and IB3. The Balearic Islands’ public broadcaster, as part of the production of Arxipèlag Blau, a co-production with the Marilles Foundation, has an agreement with telecommunications company IB-RED, which is responsible for installing and maintaining the technical infrastructure.
The Ponent Marine Reserve was created in 2004 by the Government of the Balearic Islands. The size and protection status of the reserve have evolved over time. In 2022, the regional government declared the El Toro and Les Malgrats Islands Marine Reserve, significantly expanding the protected marine area surrounding the original reserves of El Toro and the Malgrats Islands. In 2025, the Ponent Islands Marine Reserve of Mallorca was established, including El Toro, the Malgrats Islands and El Sec, modifying the geographical boundaries and dimensions of the protected area.
This initiative expands the real-time online information available through Calvià’s municipal Beaches and Coastline website. Users can already check the conditions and status of the beaches of Peguera, Palmanova, Magaluf and Santa Ponça. The platform provides information on total beach capacity, including both sandy areas and bathing zones, as well as the current occupancy percentage. It also indicates the number of people present on each beach. The information is automatically updated every 10 minutes.
