Calvià Town Hall is continuing to digitalise its tourism services by publishing real-time occupancy data for the municipality’s main beaches. This information includes both the number of people on the sand and in the water, as well as the percentage of occupancy in relation to each beach’s total capacity. To ensure the service is as useful as possible, the information is automatically updated every 10 minutes.

This beach occupancy monitoring initiative forms part of the Calvià Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) Project. As a result, residents and visitors can now check the status of six beaches located in Peguera, Palmanova, Magaluf and Santa Ponça. In addition, in the coming weeks, once the installation of all buoys has been completed, real-time information on water conditions will also be added, including parameters such as temperature, pH levels and turbidity.

It is worth highlighting that, according to the monitoring results gathered during last season, no beach in Calvià exceeded 50% occupancy during the summer of 2025, contradicting any narrative of overcrowding on the municipality’s beaches.

For example, Son Maties beach, which recorded the highest occupancy rate, reached a maximum of 49.80% of its capacity on 24 August. Meanwhile, Magaluf beach recorded its peak number of bathers on 30 July, representing just 27.58% of its maximum capacity. Analysis of these figures shows that Calvià’s large beaches remained free from overcrowding, demonstrating the quality, space and comfort enjoyed by users.

Alongside this digitalisation effort, the Town Hall hopes to renew this year the 15 Q for Quality flags achieved last year, making Calvià the third municipality in Spain and the leading municipality in the Balearic Islands for this distinction. To obtain the Q for Tourism Quality Flag, the beaches underwent a rigorous compliance process with the international UNE-ISO 13009 standard. This standard, agreed upon by nearly one hundred countries, guarantees the highest quality in service provision and the proper management of public-use facilities.

Obtaining strategic information to better understand visitor behaviour allows the Town Hall to optimise municipal resources and anticipate seasonal needs in order to continue improving public services. In this way, Calvià reinforces its commitment to excellence and consolidates its position as a leading Smart Tourist Destination, guaranteeing the best possible coastal experience for both residents and tourists.
