The Calvià Town Council, through its Library Service, which forms part of the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries (IMEB), is launching a new edition of its long-running Bibliopiscinas and Biblioplayas programmes. This well-established initiative aims to encourage reading habits and bring culture to leisure and relaxation spaces during the summer months.

The Biblioplaya service will be available in the cove of Portals Nous throughout July and August. It will operate from the well-known “Biblioroulotte”, featuring distinctive decoration created by upper-secondary art students from IES Bendinat. This beachside reading point will be open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will provide a full library service, including book loans, library-card registration and the processing of archive requests, among other services.

This year, the Portals Nous Biblioplaya will also introduce an important new inclusive and community-led initiative: for the first time, Esment users will run a weekly children’s activity. These sessions will take place at 10:00 a.m. on 2, 9, 14 and 23 July, with two days devoted to traditional games and two others to storytelling and children’s workshops.

Meanwhile, the Bibliopiscina programme will be based at the municipal swimming pool in Es Capdellà throughout July and August. The service will be available every Monday and Thursday afternoon, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A dedicated mini-library area will be set up within the pool facilities, allowing swimmers and visitors to combine relaxation with reading in a convenient and accessible setting.

Through both programmes, the Calvià Town Council once again reaffirms its commitment to decentralising cultural services and taking books beyond their usual settings, using the summer months to enrich the leisure time of residents and visitors of all ages.
