Cabrera's National Park marks its 35th anniversary with talks, visits and workshops

The Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park will commemorate its 35th anniversary with an extensive programme of free activities taking place from Friday 24th to Wednesday 29th of April at the Colònia de Sant Jordi Visitor Centre and on the island of Cabrera. The programme includes educational, cultural and outreach activities designed to bring the park’s history, natural values and conservation projects closer to the public.

The celebrations will begin on Friday 24th April at 7:00 p.m. with the talk “Cabrera in Perspective: 35th Anniversary of the Park’s Declaration: Memories of Shared Beginnings”, given by Jorge Moreno, director of the Cabrera Maritime-Terrestrial National Park between 1991 and 2014. The event will take place in the auditorium of the Colònia de Sant Jordi Visitor Centre.

On Saturday 25th of April, the centre will host a full day of activities, including an environmental fair with exhibitions and demonstrations by partner organisations, guided visits to learn more about the centre and the park’s conservation plans, and the award ceremony for the school competition “Love Cabrera: 3, 2, 1... Action! Creating a Micro-theatre Performance.” On the same day, on the island of Cabrera, an archaeology workshop entitled “Cooking in Cabrera” will be held, along with the “Sunset in Cabrera” itinerary, an opportunity to enjoy the sunset alongside the park’s guides.

The programme will continue on Sunday 26th of April with a natural dyes workshop and a children’s play at the Visitor Centre, while on Cabrera the new guided route “Ses Vinyes” will be officially launched, focusing on the interpretation of the island’s agricultural and ethnobotanical past.

The activities will conclude on Wednesday 29th of April with an environmental volunteering day on the island and with two events in Colònia de Sant Jordi: the presentation of bookmarks made by users of the Centre Mater and a commemorative planting to mark the centenary of the birth of Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente.
