Balearic sailors head into the final stretch of the Techno World Championship

Tomorrow, Thursday, April 9th, the Techno Class World Championship will come to a close with the crowning of the winners in each category.

Spain heads into the final day of the Techno World Championship, which has been taking place in the waters off Foça (Turkey) and will conclude on April 9, with a delegation of 16 sailors at one of the major international events in youth sailing.

The competition has brought together 265 athletes from 20 countries, consolidating its status as one of the main showcases for youth windsurfing worldwide and as a key event in the development of future Olympic sailing talent. Among them, five sailors belong to the following Balearic clubs: Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and Club Nàutic s’Arenal.

Among the standout names in the Spanish team is Seville’s Olivia Sánchez Moral (CN Sevilla), a two-time world and European champion in the under-15 category, who is now taking on the challenge of competing in under-17. Alongside her, Club Náutico Sevilla also fields Curro Simbad Llorca and Ana García Gayoso, both in the under-17 category, as well as under-13 newcomer Julia García Gayoso, under the guidance of coach Fernando García Iglesias.

The Spanish representation is completed by a strong Balearic presence, made up of Marta Vaquer, María Martorell, Biel Martorell and Joshua Castro, from Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, as well as Juan Bartolomé Servera, from Club Nàutic s’Arenal. Joining them are Lindia Miel Pousa, Marcos Dasilva, Cristina Iglesias, Martina Barbara Tor, Biel Escudero, Lucía Martín de la Vega and Alejandro Cuesta, forming a large team that makes Spain the seventh-largest delegation at the championship.

As for the Balearic sailors, following racing on Monday, April 6th, Joshua Castro of Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa is the provisional leader in the boys’ under-15 category. In that same category, his club teammate Biel Martorell sits in provisional third place, while Juan Bartolomé Servera of Club Nàutic s’Arenal is sixth.

The championship has been held following the usual preliminary registration and measurement days, with a schedule of up to 15 races and a maximum of four races per day, depending on weather conditions. The under-17 fleet has been one of the largest, with 90 sailors, while the under-13 category has featured around 30 participants.

Spain has attended this event with the aim of continuing to consolidate the growth of grassroots sailing on the international stage, in a competition that brings together the future stars of Olympic windsurfing.
