Olympic sailing returns to Marina Rubicón with the sixth edition of the Lanzarote International Regatta, which has established itself as an international benchmark for winter training and preparation for Olympic teams.
Weather conditions and the diversity of the race areas make Lanzarote a strategic venue for the RFEV’s sporting planning, using this regatta as a competitive test on the road to Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.
From Monday 2nd to Thursday 5tg of February, the Olympic classes ILCA 7, ILCA 6 and 49er will compete, all with RFEV representation. In ILCA 7, the largest fleet of this edition, pre-Olympic team sailors Gonzalo Suárez (CN Altea) and Javier Seguí, from Reial Club Nàutic del Port de Pollença, will take part in a predominantly senior fleet following the recent Under-21 World Championship held last week in the same waters.
The ILCA 6 class will feature a strong RFEV presence, with eight sailors competing. From the pre-Olympic team, Adriana Castro (RCN Torrevieja), recent Under-21 World Championship bronze medallist, stands out. She will be joined by Isabel Hernández (RCN Gran Canaria) and Lara Himmes (RCR Alicante).
There will also be representation from the 2032 team, led by Youth World Champion Irene de Tomás (RCN Valencia), along with Marina Serrano (CN Santa Pola), Claudia Adán (CN Santa Pola), María Gornés, from Real Club Náutico de Palma, and Ainhoa Gómez (Sailing Federation of the Region of Murcia).
In the 49er class, the RFEV will be represented by two top-level teams: the pairing of Conrad Konitzer, from Club Nàutic s’Arenal, and Antonio Torrado (RCN Torrevieja), and the current overall European champions, brothers Martín and Jaime Wizner (RCN Vigo).
The Lanzarote International Regatta will conclude on Thursday 5 February after four days of competition.
The RFEV pre-Olympic team is funded by the Higher Sports Council, the Spanish Olympic Committee and Universo Mujer, and sponsored by Iberdrola, Quirónprevención and the Government of Cantabria. Official suppliers include Azul Marino, Murimar Seguros, Nippon Express, Marinepool and Enovis.
