Balearic sailing breaks into the top 10 of the EurILCA Europa Cup

8th April 2026 by Nautimedia

The Mar Menor has become the major hub of international sailing in recent days with the staging of the EurILCA Europa Cup, one of the standout events on the continental calendar, bringing together more than 300 top-level sailors. The competition, held from April 5 to 9 in the ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 categories, reaches its final day this Thursday, April 9, when the champions of each class will be crowned.

Among the 305 registered participants, the Balearic Islands are once again making their mark with a strong representation of more than 15 sailors from leading clubs in the archipelago, such as Club Nàutic s’Arenal, Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Real Club Náutico de Palma and Club Nàutic Cala Gamba. The Balearic presence stands out not only for its numbers, but also for its results, reinforcing the islands’ status as one of the leading breeding grounds for Spanish sailing talent.

Following racing on Tuesday, April 7th, Balearic talent has been especially visible in the ILCA 6 class, where Mallorca’s Nikko Palou, from Real Club Náutico de Palma, leads the provisional standings with 6 points. His clubmate Juan Bennassar is in second place, confirming the outstanding form of the Mallorcan delegation in this international competition.

In the men’s ILCA 4 class, Real Club Náutico de Palma has also placed another of its sailors among the top contenders. Stanley Krueger is provisionally in fifth place, remaining in the fight for the top positions ahead of the final day. In addition, Toni Truyols, from Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, sits in provisional seventh place in this category, followed by Marc Femenias, from Club Nàutic Cala Gamba.

The EurILCA Europa Cup also serves as a prelude to the major event of the month in Murcian waters: the ILCA 4 European Championship, which will be held from April 11 to 18 at the High Performance Centre of the Region of Murcia. It is an event that will raise the competitive level even further and bring together some of the leading young prospects in international sailing.

With several Balearic sailors placed near the top of the standings, the final day promises plenty of excitement for island sailing, which is aiming to close out this important European event with a strong showing and a place on the podium.
