Balearic Islands, second in Spain’s Anchored Ship Championship

Mallorca has hosted on October 17th and 18th the 40th Spain’s Championship of Autonomic Selections of Anchored Ships, with the Club Nàutic Portitxol as host and epicentre of national sports fishing. The event has been organized in collaboration with the Spanish Fishing and Casting Federation and the Balearic Fishing and Casting Federation, and has reunited 87 fishmongers coming from the whole country.

During two intense competition journeys, the participants, who arrived from communities such as the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Murcia, Asturias, the Basque Country and the Balearics, have participated in this individual championship under the modality of fishing and loosening, using shrimps as bait.

A total of 23 ships, some of the Club Nàutic Portitxol and others lent by collaborating clubs, have gathered the fishmongers, distributed by raffle in mixed groups of different autonomies. Each athlete carried their own bowl with an oxygenator aboard, where the living captures were kept until the moment of counting and measurement, which was carried out at the end of every race.

The activity began on Friday, October 17th in the morning with the reunion of captains at the Azuline Hotel, official accommodation of the championship. In this encounter instructions of the competition were given and the ships were assigned to every participant. 

The national kicked off that same afternoon, at 3 p.m., with the positions of the fishmongers inside the ships and the first race.

On Saturday 18th, after completing the first race, participants enjoyed a picnic before facing the second part of the journey. After finishing the last races of the championship, the activity moved to the facilities of Club Nàutic Portitxol, where a closing dinner and the awards ceremony that crowned Murcian Juan Manuel took place.

The Balearic Fishing Federation has winner the runner-up thanks to the championship carried out by the Balearic fishmongers and the great obtained results, such as the fifth place achieved by José Alós from Club Nàutic Portitxol,

In addition, this championship had a qualifying nature for the World’s Championship, which turns it into a key date in the national calendar of sportive fishing.
