Balearic charge at the 18th Spanish Sea Kayak Championship

26th June 2025 by Agencies

The last weekend of June is reserved on Spain’s national canoeing calendar for Sea Kayak. After three successful events earlier in the season, the Spanish Cups held in Torrevieja (March), Vigo (April), and Alicante (May), it’s now time for the main event of the discipline: the Spanish Championship, which in 2025 celebrates its 18th edition.

Out of the 607 paddlers from across Spain competing in this championship, 120 belong to the following clubs from the Balearic Islands: Es Nàutic, Club Nàutic Santa Eulàlia, Real Club Náutico de Palma, Club de Mar-Mallorca, Club de Vela Port d’Andratx, Club Nàutic Portitxol, Club Marítimo de Mahón, Club Nàutic Ciutadella, Club Náutico Villacarlos, and the canoeing section of CDSCM Mallorca.

The championship will be held in the town of Dénia, organized by the local Real Club Náutico under the umbrella of the Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation.

For this edition, the number of participants has increased compared to last year, with a total of 607 paddlers (414 men and 193 women), 49 more than in the previous edition.

The competition will span two days, Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th, and will include every possible category: from Under12 and Under14 (Groups A and B) to Youth, Under23, and Senior (both male and female), along with the Veteran categories. In addition, Paracanoe events will also be included, with nine individual participants and six inclusive mixed teams competing in SS1, SS2, OC1, and Traditional K1 races.

Regarding distances, the race for the youngest (U12) category will be 3,000 meters long, while all other events will cover 8,000 meters, with some variations in the start system. Most races will begin on the water from the boat, except for the Downwind course, which will start from the shore with paddlers standing in waist-deep water, an “Australian start.”
